The Preservation Strip No. 33 was manufactured in New York, New York using precision cut 100% silk, designed to preserve cinema’s architectural landmarks in wearable form. Each strip measures 2 in x 33.9 in and is hand finished with stitched edges, allowing its archival graphics to remain intact through time.

Printed across the silk are marquee shots from the Vine and the Cinerama Dome historic theaters at the center of Hollywood’s cinematic past. These facades are joined by a cartographic grid, mapping their exact locations within Los Angeles. The dual layering of imagery cinema architecture paired with urban cartography renders the strip a hybrid artifact: part textile, part archival document.

Designed in tribute to cinema’s geography, the Preservation Strip features dual elements:

  • Exterior: A sequence of marquee reproductions from the Vine and Cinerama, screen-printed in precision detail.
  • Cartographic layer: A mapped index plotting the theaters’ grid positions, forming a record of their urban imprint.

This artifact may show natural shifts in weave and finish, intentional markers of its archival nature. Each strip is preserved in singularity, existing as its own document of cinema’s spatial memory. To maintain its character, avoid prolonged sunlight or environmental wear, which may alter the surface.
